How To Increase Traffic On Your Website? – 13 Tips to Succeed

Many people struggle with getting, increasing and keeping traffic on their website. I have tried out several tips that I have read about so far and below I made a list of the ones which worked the best on my sites. I am sure they will be helpful for you as well. Try them and leave me a comment which you think worked the best for you. If you have any other tips how to increase traffic on your website, feel free and share is as well.

Why is it important to increase traffic on your site?

Having visitors and making traffic is one of the most important aims when you create a website. The more traffic you have, the better ranking you will get from search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.) and vica versa: the better ranking you get the more traffic your site will have. And as a result, the more traffic you have, the more you can earn with your site or business.

1. Write, write, write and write!

Have content on your site. The more the merrier. The more you write the more chance you have that your keyword can appear in search engines with your articles.

Be consistent, e.g. write a post each day or each week and try to post it on the same day (e.g. every Thursday). This way your readers will know when they should get back to your site for new ideas and information. In addition, it also makes you a daily / weekly routine that you can follow.

2. Keywords

Target keywords that many people look for and only have a few results in search engines. You can use this keyword in your title and within your post as well, but do not stuff your writing with targeted keywords either.

I use Jaaxy to research for these types of keywords. It is free and easy to use and always works well – my sites rank in the first page quickly. You can try it out here:

3. Social Media profile updates

Make sure you update all your social media profiles with your URL. Add your site (and your role) to all of them. If you do not have social media profiles, now it’s time to join with your brand and get some followers.

4. Social Media groups and forums

Find relevant groups and forums online and let people know about your site. People are very grateful for your help.

You can include your link in a comment as part of your answer when there is a related question or make your own posts explaining to people why and how your site can be useful for them.

However, don’t depend only on social media as there are several stories about being banned even with tens of thousands of followers without any previous notification.

5. Social Media share / follow buttons

Add social media icons so that people can share and follow your posts easily. It will reach much more people if they only have to click to show what they have just read and liked.

You can also ask people at the end of your posts to like and share your article if they liked it.

6. E-mail address signature with your website URL

It does not matter if you have private and professional e-mail address separately, add your URL to all of your signatures. This is a very easy way to let your friends and anyone else you are in contact with know about your site and increase your traffic.

7. Catching titles

Make your readers interested in your articles. Create a catching title so that they want to click on your post and read it.

I usually use Shopify’s generator if I run out of ideas, it is easy to use, no sign up is required and it shows hundreds of possible variations, while most others generally show only one result at a time and as a reason, it is Shopify’s is much quicker.

8. Flyers

Leave some flyers with your website’s URL in places where it can help. For example some stores, school, kindergarten, sports centers.

9. Pictures, graphics, and videos

Add a proper name to each and every visual you upload to your website. Search engines can rank your site in their results with your visuals and this can be an additional source for attracting visitors.

10. Ask for comments

At the end of your articles ask people to add their thought, opinion, and questions in comments. Engagement on your site also helps to have good ranking and people tend to read and follow blogs where there are more comments.

Make sure you reply to all of them, this way you boost your own ranking and keep your visitors active who want to get back to your site for your answers and help.

11. Subscription and newsletter

Make sure your visitors can subscribe and get newsletter regularly from you. This way you can reach and remind anyone who has once liked your page, and they will not forget about it.

12. Speed of your site

Check your website speed. You might lose a great number of visitors (and you do not even know about it) because the loading time of your site is too long and people do not wait for it, just quit and look for something quicker.

Google provides a speed checker here, simply copy your URL and analyze it. They also provide help for improvement for not too good sites.

13. Mobile version

Choose a theme that is responsive and appears perfectly on any device. You do not want to lose visitors because your site cannot be loaded on their mobile or any other operating system.

These are the techniques that I use on a daily basis. Do you have any other idea that I did not mention above? Let us know about it in a comment.

If you have tried any or all of these tips, share your experience and success as well.

  1. OK, so I have never thought about leaving flyers, but you’re absolutely right. That’s a great strategy that people forget about, more traditional advertising methods. And your #1, that’s probably the most important – content, content, content. Writing quality content, in my opinion, continues to be one of the most important items to day. When we blend keywords into content, that’s important. I’m glad you brought up Jaaxy, I love this solution.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that content is the most important element. This is also my reason to have it in the first place and Jaaxy helps you write quality content.

And flyers is probably the most traditional way but lately I found it at quite many places and it works 🙂

Very interesting article – I really didn’t realise that the speed of your website and the interaction on it had such a baring on your overall rank!

When it comes to the speed of your site – how can you tell if it’s fast enough or not? Are there any tools that gauge it’s ‘snappiness’? Also, what can you do to make your site faster?

    1. admin says:

      Hi Chris,

Thanks, very good questions! So, Google ranks better quicker sites. Also, there are very many statistics which show that people don’t wait for slow sites to load, they look for something that works well.

You can test your site at this page (Google’s tool). If you sign up to Wealthy Affiliate your site is automatically checked for optimal speed and you can check it yourself anytime for all of your websites and pages in a minute.

If you do not install too many plugins that is a good start not to slow down your site. You have just inspired me, I am going to write a post next how to have optimal speed on your site 🙂 I will send you when it is ready!

I must thank you for this awesome tips. I have problem with my traffic because of Google algorithm update and it is hard to recover. I am not using social media at all and now from what I have read I will need to implement it in my business. I just want to ask what are your metrics when you research keyword in the Jaaxy?

    1. admin says:

      Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your comment. Boosting your traffic with social media is very effective, so I would really suggest you.

I always try to focus on keywords and phrases where the average search is more than 300 and at the same time I try to keep the QSR under 30. This way I managed to be in the first page in all search engines with most of my articles with my other sites.

      Good luck 🙂

Excellent tips and of course some are pretty obvious. You need to have content and the more the merrier as it always increases your chance of ranking.

However, smartly choosing keywords is even more important than just writing a million articles with bad keyword research.

I mean, one article can generate hundreds or even thousands of dollars if ranked on the 1st spot with carefully chosen keywords, while 90% of the other articles on your website barely create an income.

    1. admin says:

That is well said. Choosing and using the right keywords are essential to rank good. That is why a good keyword research program is so important. One that is easy to use and you can absolutely trust.

  5. Stratos K says:

I agree to all your recommendations as they will definitely help with ranking. I would also like a couple more suggestions that help. One of them is to have internal and external links. Internal links help visitors to search other pages of your website while external links show that you are not afraid to direct people to other authoritative websites. Also it is not only important to do keyword research but also to aim for a minimum of 1,000 words articles but also what you will write in this article to be quality content. If you just write content for the sake of filling this 1,000 words limit then Google takes notice but if your article has quality information Google definitely will rank you better. Just a few more suggestions to add to yours. Thank you for the share!

Thanks a lot for your comment, I will definitely include it in the second part of this article! Very good and useful advice!

These are some great tips on increasing website traffic.

With the subscribers do you send a welcome email, and how often do you send your newletter out?

I don’t want people to think I don’t realize they have subscribed to my page, what should I include in a welcome email is it is an important thing to sendd?

I never thought of signing all of my emails with my URL that is savy!

I have ordered a set of pens with my site name and URL on them, I am hoping to gain some traffic from that when I hand out my pens to the serving staff at the resturant I work at.  What are your thoughts on this idea?

Thank you for this post! I learned a couple of tricks here that I am sure I will be like I wish I used this idea, like signing my emails with my URL.

I know others will also benefit from this article.

All these tips are definitely useful to help rank your site to increase traffic.

You mentioned putting more content on your website and the more the merrier. Many other bloggers I know write 2-3 posts a week, some hard working people write 1 every day. Theoretically what if I write 10x a day? Is there such a thing as writing too much content? If I do write and publish 10x a day does that mean my rankings will go up 10x as fast, assuming all my content is just as good?

What if there are some days I just want to take a break and not write any blog posts, is replying to comments good enough and does it count as “content” by Google?

  11. Great stuff! Everything you mentioned is great and is a solid basis. I would add another tip and that would be to “FETCH” as google and also on bing and yahoo whenever you add or update content! That creates robot activity on your site!

  12. Hello Reka;
Your post is very interesting. The speed of the website in ranking has never crossed my mind. Will have to take your advice and see if I can check it. Quality Content with the right keywords can help tremendously. If I leave a post for you, could you please tell me if the speed is good or not. Thank You

    Bill

  13. Very good article and well organized, easy to read! Please stop by and take a look at my site if you have the time.

    Kind Regards,

  14. Hi Reka,

This a very timely article from which I took notes. A few more ways to get traffic is with webinars (animated) Obviously, you should have a little traffic at first. However, if you have a giveaway where you tell a friend to tell a friend about your bonuses for sharing your content, people will flock to your site.

The giveaway most be of some value – at least $40, that will inspire your visitors to see that you are person who cares about your audience. This will make you stand out from the crowd…Upviral.com is where I got this idea from.

I really enjoyed reading your article Reka.

    Thanks for sharing it!

  15. Wonderful advises you have on your article in terms of getting traffic for a website. I’ve been using most of the ways as mentioned above except including website URL in our email signatures.

I believe I’ll be doing so whenever I adopt email marketing in my marketing campaign. Anyway thanks for the AWESOME write-up. By the way, I’m a big fan of JAAXY too. Been loving it since day 1 of using it, the simplicity, the user-friendliness, the value-for-money factor is really enticing for anyone who wants to learn about fully utilizing keyword research to gain TONNES of organic traffic to a website.

    Cheers!
